A Home in the African Wilderness
Before Jembisa became recognised for its award-winning safari experiences and distinctive Safari Plus philosophy, it began as something far more intimate — a family home in the wild.
Lovingly created by Jane and her family, Jembisa was shaped by her own childhood in Zambia — one filled with freedom, nature, exploration and long days outdoors. It was never designed to be a commercial lodge. It was built as a place where families could belong in the bush — safely, generously, and without compromise, within a malaria-free private reserve in the Waterberg.
Today, with her children grown, that same spirit remains at the heart of Jembisa. What guests experience is not simply a safari, but an invitation into a way of life.
I first met Jane at Indaba, and it was only after visiting her in London and then spending time at the lodge itself that I truly understood how deeply personal this space is. This is where she raised her children. This is where she created the environment she wished to share with other families — an African wilderness experience layered with possibility.
Safari (+)PLUS is not a marketing phrase. It is lived experience.
Safari + Game drives among giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and plains game.
Safari + Tennis in the bush.
Safari + Cycling, fishing, wilderness camp-outs beneath the stars.
Safari + riding across open savannah.
All within a secure, owner-led environment that allows children the rare gift of freedom.
What moved me most was a testimonial from Ingrim, founder of Escape and Explore, describing Jembisa as a once-in-a-lifetime family experience — one that creates memories not just of wildlife, but of connection.
And that, ultimately, is what Jembisa offers.
Not simply a safari.
A return to childhood wonder.
